Welcoming the Stranger

“HELLO- O-O-O!” The sound rings out throughout the whole Post Office. Milan is greeting another customer. From his place behind the window of his station he welcomes the next person in line with the kind of greeting most people would reserve for a long-lost friend—a mixture of surprise and delight. When I lived in Santa Cruz, CA, I used to time my place in line to arrive in front of his window, just to experience Milan’s heart-felt “HELLO-O-O-O-O”. One time I stood in line, determined to “Halloooo!” Milan before he “Helloooooed!” me, but I was unsuccessful. I could not beat Milan to the “Hellooooo!”

Milan is my model for how a simple greeting can brighten someone’s day. I always felt validated, welcomed, loved by Milan, just for being there. I did not know him outside of the Post Office, but he always made me feel like the most important person in the room.

It is very simple to give a Milan-style greeting to people we pass on the street, at the park, at the parking lot, or to a neighbor we rarely see. We don’t have to know the person. They don’t have to actually be our best friend, we can just greet them as if they were. “Hello, nice to see you!” often elicits a friendly greeting in return, so you receive a double shot of energy—one when you surprise someone and startle them out of their daydream, and the other when you receive a smile and “Hello” in return.

The Mask presents only a small barrier. Your voice and smiling eyes can still get through, and it is very heartening to see someone’s eyes crinkle at the corners, betraying a smile.

Try this when the world situation has you feeling depressed. Go for a walk and “Hello!” the strangers you meet – the people you know, too, of course. Check yourself when you get home and see if you don’t feel more energized and happier—because—when we uplift someone else, we uplift ourselves as well.

In mutual upliftment!

p.s. Kindly read about Shanta Gabriel’s program of angelic communications, The Archangel Transmissions. I have known Shanta for many years and can attest to her sincerity and ability to transmit the light she receives from the angelic realm. This program will be of significant help to anyone looking for light, love, and encouragement in their life.
